I Love my Colorado State Rams. I went to CSU from 1993 – 1997 perhaps the best time ever to be on that campus.
Fast forward a decade or so and I’m trying to start a big company. Why, because I believe in the magic of thinking big. My belief is that special things happen when you are not afraid to think big. Win or loose you are much better off swimming in deep waters than splashing about in the shallow end.
CSU, on the other hand, has had a lethargic few years. I had stopped paying close attention to the happenings in Ft. Collins and would save my fandom for the CSU – CU game and the Battle for Bronze Boot.
Then I caught an interesting post on Twitter a few weeks back. The new CSU President, Dr. Tony Frank wrote a white paper laying out his arguments for a strong athletic program. (Total disclosure, I had no idea who the President at CSU was until that moment.) It was a great case, (devoid of edu speak) for why CSU’s Athletics needed to be strong. It even suggested that an on campus stadium would be a big boost for moral.
Hold the phone… did the President at CSU just mention an on campus stadium? For years the administration would laugh at the thought of moving our football stadium and the CSU President just put it in writing? That made me take notice.
Then in the matter of days…. bang, a new AD. His message, think big. CSU can and should expect greatness from it’s athletic program. Bang, the Fairchild days are over (good coach but too mean to coach college ball I think). Bang, we hire one of the hottest coaching prospects in the country. His message, don’t be afraid to think big. CSU is special and we should expect special things from the football program.

My CSU Rams are thinking BIG and I love it!
Here’s the secret that I think Dr. Frank, the new AD and the new football coach understand. There are scores of CSU alums waiting for something to be proud of. We’re still proud residents of Ramnation but we need a big vision to get behind. Tell us how we’re going to do big things. Tell us how we will get to watch a football game on the campus we love. Tell us how we’re going to go bowl games. Tell us how we’ll play any team around the country, any time and anywhere. Think big! Do that and I for one will happily send my (small) check in every year to support the vision and I think other alums will follow.
