As a Jersey gal, I’ve been a Giants fan since I was a wee one. So yesterday was, well, pleasing. I holed up to watch the game with childhood friends, bit my nails down to the quick, and got elbowed in the face when the group of us jumped around screaming and the clock ticked down to zero.
After I determined that I hadn’t lost a tooth, I picked up my phone...

Smartly Stupid and Stupid Smart
I got some bad news this past week. My company was up for a chance to pitch at an event in Silicon Valley. We were in the last 12 companies… 8 will get to pitch 4 got left out. I was sorely disappointed that we didn’t get an opportunity to pitch but you have to tough skin in this business.
In fact we’re back at it and could use your support so we can pitch at really cool event in a...

If you haven’t checked them out, please do…http://nokero.com Nokero is a collection of smart people who are dedicated to getting solar lightbulbs in the hands of the billion plus people worldwide without regular access to electricity. Their business is simple....

The 3 Worst Startup Pitches of All Time
I want to conclude my short week of posts around pitch competitions by telling you the story of the three worst pitches I have ever witnessed and hopefully finding something we can learn from their shameful, shameful, failure. (I’m kidding… every pitch is a good pitch.) I don’t need to change the names to protect the innocent because I truthfully don’t remember the company or the peoples’...

The 5 Worst Pitch Competition Mistakes
I’ve entered our new project Moblify in the Founders Showcase, a competition that features emerging companies. Take a couple of secs and vote for us HERE.
Through my time at the Bard Center for Entrepreneurship, Founder Institute and bumming around the Denver / Boulder Startup Community I have literally heard 1,000,000,000,000 (that’s a gizzilionbillion in case you were counting)...
The Death of @cefranks (The Account Not Me)
Last year I played around with the concept of 2 Twitter accounts. My first account @madsmarts I was going to repurpose to blog on startups while I would create @cefranks to have personal conversations with my friends.
I think the idea could have worked if I had any more time in my day and was willing to cut down on my sleep even more (I’m not). But I had collected a bunch of friends in both...

Santa Claus is very real.
The young father stood in line at the Kmart layaway counter, wearing dirty clothes and worn-out boots. With him were three small children.
He asked to pay something on his bill because he knew he wouldn’t be able to afford it all…

Are you a Teboist or a CMF?
I’m a fan of Tim Tebow for many reasons:
1) He’s a good person who is also a good football player.
2) The Broncos are fun to watch again.
3) He reminds me of how we played football growing up in Texas… run, run and run some more.
I’m not sure why he’s such a polarizing figure. I’m not particularly religious but I don’t judge people who are. Especially those that do good and don’t push their...
The Magic of Thinking Big at Colorado State
I Love my Colorado State Rams. I went to CSU from 1993 - 1997 perhaps the best time ever to be on that campus.
Fast forward a decade or so and I’m trying to start a big company. Why, because I believe in the magic of thinking big. My belief is that special things happen when you are not afraid to think big. Win or loose you are much better off swimming in deep waters than splashing about in...
Steve Jobs Telling the History of Apple(via... →
This very rare video was recorded in the 1980s. It shows Steve Jobs talking about the origin of Apple. It’s fascinating to see how he hints at the Next Big Thing, back when the Macintosh was still a secret project in development.

The Personal Pivot
We hear about pivots in the start up community constantly. Loosely defined a pivot is when a company changes directions to chase a different opportunity. I think it is a bit of a silly idea since all the smart start up folks I know are CONSTANtLY pivoting. Perhaps a better analogy would be the startup tango… lots and lots of pivots.
But here is the question I would like to discuss today....
The Why You Live in Denver List
I’ve been kicking around an idea lately.
I love Denver. If there is a better city on the world I have yet to find it. With nods to my old home of San Diego, San Fran, Seattle and Barcelona, Denver rules them all. Here’s the problem. I’m not sure that I have been living up to MY expectations as a Denverite. I have not soaked up nearly enough sun, not pedaled nearly enough single track and...
Amazon vs Netflix
Just a quick compare and contrast.
I’m a big fan of Amazon. I have an Amazon Cloud Music Player Account which has been a real help with freeing my hard drive of lots of music. I became a bigger fan when last week I received this email:
Hello,
Thanks for your prior purchase of the 50 GB Amazon Cloud Drive storage plan. Beginning today, all paid Cloud Drive storage plans include unlimited...
